KCON 2013 is a large-scale convention of Korean culture being held at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on August 24 and 25. This year marks the second convention, following the first one held last year. The convention is captivating audiences across America. Performances such as the MCountdown What’s Up LA concert on August 25, 7 pm (local time) with having G-Dragon, 2AM, f(x), Dynamic Duo, EXO, TEEN TOP, Yoo Seung-Woo, and DJ Koo on the lineup are already hot tickets for fans. What’s more, there is a whole host of more events dedicated to the Korean Wave being held in dozens of booths at the venue.

DJ Koo, one of the so-called ‘first-generation’ of Korean pop stars, will attend ‘DANCE ALL DAY’, an event being held to cover everything about K-POP dance. He will also stop by for ‘MCountdown What’s Up LA’, where he will be joined by Aimee Lee Lucas, who choreographed Bing Bang and 2NE1. DJ Koo will also attend ‘Vintage K-POP’ with Danny from 1TYM, which is an opportunity to let American fans know about the K-POP and its roots from the 90s, where it all began. Yoo Seung-Woo, who made it through to the top 10 of Mnet’s Superstar K4 will attend the event ‘Audition Star’ alongside Han Hee-Joon, who made it through to the top 9 on American Idol 11. The two are thus audition stars from Korea and the US, respectively, and will use their insight to let audiences know about the differences between Korean and American audition shows as well as their own experiences.

CJ O Shopping will open a booth where Korean designer Choi Bum-Seok and Ko Tae-Yong will promote Korean fashion, showcasing the latest in dynamic Korean fashion for visitors, as well as giving lucky event goes a chance to catch a glimpse of next season. At the booth of the popular fashion and makeup program Get It Beauty, Korea’s top makeup artist Woo Hyun-Jeung will provide info on how to achieve the makeup secrets of K-Pop artists. The convention also has a range of events providing visitors with first-hand experiences of Korean music, food and fashion. Such events include ‘Making your own Bibimbap’, ‘How to write K-pop songs/lyrics’ and ‘Spicy soft tofu eating contest’

Moreover, American singer/songwriter Jeff Bernat, a former stalwart of the Seoul Jazz Festival, will be on hand to talk about the successes of various Asian American stars on YouTube. Jeff became famous when his debut album was released to much critical acclaim last year, with great buzz in community sites, blogs, YouTube and social media. He will deliver a talk on his experience of becoming a star through YouTube. He will then perform at a special outdoor booth.

Kim Hyun-Soo, head of the CJ E&M Convention Business team, who is in charge of this event, said: “This event is like a Korean culture gift set. It will provide visitors with the chance to get first-hand experience of Korean pop culture. They will get to see, listen to and enjoy the kind of K-Pop which they have typically only so far been able to get to know briefly through the media.”
