Celebrate the reopening of CJ Azit Gwangheungchang

The encounter between water and ice! Mot X Asian Chairshot, performances to celebrate the re-opening of CJ Azit Gwangheungchang

CJ Azit Gwangheungchang is not completely remodeled. It instead transformed itself from a theater into an expanded space that includes a studio. To celebrate the re-opening, an indie bands Mot and Asian Chairshot performed to celebrate ‘a renewal concert.’ Contrasted like water and ice, the performance of the two bands truly heated up CJ Azit Gwangheungchang! I’ll share with you everything from the performance to interviews with the musicians.

#Interview with the 9th Tune Up, Asian Chairshot

Q. How did you feel about your performance in celebration of the re-opening of CJ Azit Gwangheungchang?
A. Firstly, congratulations on the re-opening of CJ Azit Gwangheungchang! We are very flattered that we were called to the first performance. We are really looking forward to playing with the band Mot. We will surely put on a good performance.

Q. What do you think we should pay attention to in today’s performance?
A. Mot and Asian Chairshot have very different music styles. Strangely enough, we seem to have similar sensibilities. We believe this similarity will probably create unexpected chemistry. Also, I hear that good events are planned during the intermission. I believe it will be a very enjoyable performance for everyone.

Q. What is the driving force that lets you continue to play music?
A. I think it’s because we are not playing alone. The three of us are playing in the band. We also meet a lot of people who are helping us. The fact that we rely on each other and drive each other is a great encouragement to us.

Q. I heard that Asian Chairshot is preparing a full-length album. Please give us some brief info about that.
A. We originally started out as a rock band, but we eventually became more of a rock band these days. This album emphasizes our identity as a rock band, and we tried to include a variety of music into this album. You may expect to hear and see a brand-new look of Asian Chairshot, e.g. experimental music and rocking music.

#CJ Azit Gwangheungchang filled with the feverish praise of fans

The waiting room on the first floor jam-packed with audience members before the start of the performance reveals the expectations they have about the performance. The waiting room, which used to be small before the remodeling, has now been transformed into an open space. The audience can wait for the performance to start while freely watching the Tune Up MD zone and the images on the wall.

The stage of Tune Up sounded more compelling after the remodeling. As the ceiling is so high, the concert hall looks definitely one of a kind. The performance was pleasant to the ear of not only musicians, but also fans who love music.

The first team on the stage was the 9th Tune Up, Asian Chairshot. They appeared on the stage with their dominant charisma. The perfect harmony among the vocals, guitar and drums culminated in a sound the echoed throughout the concert hall. Their enchanting stage manners led the audience to get really noisy and vocal. The amazing guitar riffs also heightened the atmosphere of the concert hall.

Asian Chairshot captivated music fans with songs full of Korean sensibilities, such as ‘Dongyang Banchikwang (The Dirtiest Player of the Orient),’ ‘Banjiha Jewang (Lord of the Basement)’ and ‘Sarangi Moyeoseo (Love Gathered)’. Asian Chairshot also sang ‘Talchum (Mask Dance)’ and ‘Ttwinolja (Let’s Frolic),’ which enabled the entire audience to enjoy the festival while celebrating the re-opening of CJ Azit Gwangheungchang.

The band Mot came on the stage following Asian Chairshot. The aura of five men, i.e. the vocalist eAeon, the guitarist, the bassist, the keyboard player and the drummer, filled the stage. I was totally thrilled by their music.

They started their performance with ‘Five Bags’ and ‘Two Bass Waltz.’ Their sentimentality was laid bare for all to see and hear. The audience saw the vocalist, the keyboard, the guitar, the bass and the drum become one on the stage. They truly presented the audience with sensational and groovy music.

The remodeled CJ Azit Gwangheungchang concert hall is enriched because the high ceiling deepened the sound. The audience, captivated by the music, had to hold their collective breath. Their fervent response enabled the musicians to have a great time as well. The band Mot sang ‘Wings’ as an encore before wrapping up their performance.

#An upbeat interview with the band, Mot

Q. How do you feel about performing to celebrate the re-opening of CJ Azit Gwangheungchang?
A. This is our second performance at CJ Azit Gwangheungchang. After remodeling, it became a good place for both the performers and the audience. It seems like we performed well here and had some fun in the process.

Q. Please give us some feedback on the remodeled stage of CJ Azit Gwangheungchang.
A. For starters, a concert hall of this size cannot make this kind of sound. The ceiling is high and the sound is so great that it’s got the most ideal conditions for performance. We believe that it has a very good environment for musicians. We think that if we use the high ceiling as part of the stage setting and image production, it could be quite interesting.

Q. What do you think we should pay attention to in today’s performance?
A. We said it would be great to perform with Asian Chairshot. But watching their performance, we thought ‘hmm, maybe we made a mistake.’ The two teams exude completely different energy when they perform. But maybe the audience will find it quite interesting. We think it must be like a contrast between fire and ice.

Q. Do you have any insight you want to pass along to young musicians?
A. What we realized as musicians is that the reactions of people and the rewards are important, but the fundamental issue is that we must think about what we can show to them.

Q. What is the driving force that lets you continue to play music?
A. We feel that it is the support of our fans. We think we do not deserve the love they show to us whenever we perform in a concert hall. Synergy with the fans cannot be ignored. If we played only the music we like and just settled for that, we might not have played for as long as we have.

This has been the news about the performance of the 9th Tune Up, Asian Chairshot, and the band Mot to celebrate the re-opening of Azit Gwangheungchang. The first performance at CJ Azit Gwangheungchang, which was re-opened in April 2017, came to a successful close. Don’t forget that good performances will surely follow! I hope that you are as excited as we are about seeing a variety of performances at CJ Azit Gwangheungchang.
