CJ Freshway operates the biggest logistics center in the Yeongnam area
Can supply over 30 thousand ingredients from the center that is twice the size of a football field

CJ Group’s food ingredients distributor and institutional foodservice company CJ Freshway (CEO Moon Jong-Seok) starts operating a new automated logistics center to distribute food ingredients in the Yeongnam area starting this month.

CJ Freshway’s ‘Dongbu Logistics Center’ that is newly opened in Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do is twice the size of a football field (22,000 ㎡) and the biggest food logistics center in the Yeongnam area. Comprised of two stories above ground, the logistics center is equipped with ambient storage, chilled storage and frozen storage warehouses on each floor to store the products at optimum temperatures.

Compared to the Yangsan Logistics Center that is already in operation, the new center is about 5 times bigger and can handle about 2.2 times more quantity of goods each day, accommodating as much as 400 tons. This enables CJ Freshway to supply over 30 thousand ingredients a day to major B2B clients located in the Yeongnam area such as foodservice franchise stores and food manufacturing plants.

The Dongbu Logistics Center applied an advanced automated system to achieve a ‘zero’ error rate from warehousing of ingredients to delivery for each client. The center is equipped with a system optimized for logistics of food ingredients such as automated sorting and picking as well as inventory control. This is expected to reduce an average of 2 hours from sorting ingredients and loading them on vehicles for each client.

Moreover, the center has a dock that can accommodate 93 vehicles at once to improve the delivery service and reduce loading time, and also applied the ‘W-Navi’ system for the first time in the industry. The ‘W-Navi’ system is a smart logistics system that supports tasks such as warehousing, storing up, delivery order and inventory control based on location information by converting the entire layout of the logistics center into data.

With the Dongbu Logistics Center, CJ Freshway can now optimize the time required from ordering to delivery, while also improving the rates of storage and management at logistics centers in the capital area.

“Once the Dongbu Logistics Center enters into full operation, we can deliver our products to the clients in the Yeongnam area in time, which will not only improve their satisfaction but also contribute to revitalizing the regional economy by increasing purchases of famous local ingredients,” said Yoon Tae-Hyuk in charge of SCM at CJ Freshway. “We’re aiming to increase logistics efficiency by applying the cutting-edge automated system to the logistics center we are already operating.”

CJ Freshway is operating logistics centers in 6 regions of Korea including Icheon, Suwon and Jangseong and is reviewing ways to build additional logistics center that can serve as a base in order to supply food ingredients to local clients in a timely manner.
