On the morning of August 29, Chairman Sohn Kyung-Shik met with Rep. Ed Royce, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, at CJ HumanVille in Pil-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.

Ed Royce, a representative from California, and also the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met with CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-Shik and top executives, and talked about CJ Group’s business in California, and expansion of cultural and economic exchange. Also, Rep. Royce delivered the Congressional plaque of appreciation to CJ Group for investing more than USD 500 million in the US, generating annual sales of USD 600 million, and creating more than 1,000 jobs.
Top executives from CJ Group, including CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-Shik, Kim Cheol-Ha, CEO of CJ CheilJedang, Park Geun-Tae, CEO of CJ Logistics, Seo Jeong, CEO of CJ CGV, and Suh Sung-Yup, co-CEO of CJ America, and Rep. Ed Royce, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Rep. Ami Bera, vice-ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, attended the meeting.

CJ Group attracted public attention when CJ CheilJedang’s 'bibigo Dumplings' was introduced as a success story of the Korea-US FTA at the ‘Korea-US Business Summit,’ which was held in the DC Chamber of Commerce in Washington last June. Rep. Royce, who attended the ‘Korea-US Business Summit,’ introduced ‘'bibigo Dumplings,’ which greatly contributed to the invigoration of the local economy and job creation, and praised it very highly in his congratulatory address.
The Food Business Division of CJ CheilJedang, which entered the US market in 2010 for the first time with ‘bibigo Dumplings,’ saw its market share reach 11.3%, and its annual sales exceed KRW 100 billion last year, and subsequently beat out ‘Ling Ling,’ the dumpling brand which has monopolized the US dumpling market for 25 years, and become the market leader. The Food Business Division of CJ CheilJedang is planning to build its third production base in the Eastern region of the US this year to accelerate its foray into the overall market, and continuously expand its business by making inroads into the B2B market. Through this, it aims increase its US sales to as much as KRW 300 billion by 2020.
