There are a lot of ways to enjoy the summer vacation in the city. But, to take in the all the romance of summer, you need movies and music. Without them, life itself tastes, well, not as sweet. CJ Creative Journal has been to paradise. A place that has music, movies, and delicious food! We would like to invite you to this place of paradise, CGV Green Cinema where we had so much fun for a day.
This is CGV Green Cinema at DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza)
When we first entered into the DDP at Dongdaemun, Seoul, everything was decorated with yellow-green balloons. As we got closer toward the balloons, Popcorni and CGV staff were giving them away to promote CGV Green Cinema. We wanted to get one of them because of their fresh yellow-green color, but as we were not allowed to carry them into the event venue, we let them go to better homes!
We moved past the large Green Cinema panel towards the box office. On that hot summer day, we were glad to see the clear blue sky. Such weather really is the summer season's unique charm.
Enjoy CGV Green Cinema with a light heart!
We collected our bracelet passes and coupons at the box office before entering the venue! When we stepped into the event hall on the fourth floor of the DDP Design Lab, we saw a crowd of people filling the place and standing in lines. The sight out of the window was full of beautiful green grass where today's mini music festival and movie screening were to be.
We decided to use the food coupon we got together with the bracelet pass to sample some delicious food. Each person received a coupon that was redeemable at six booths: CGV, Bibigo, Petitzel, Monteith's, Puradak Chicken, and Toreta.
At the CGV booth, we took some Premium Gourmet Popcorn and Nacho Chips, stalwart friends of the cinema, and a portable USB fan to cool off. It was great to get a paper tray for carrying our food from the various booths.
At the Bibigo booth, we went for crunchy Seaweed Crisps and Bibigo’s new fruit vinegar Water Pop. The Water Pop came in various flavors: we chose refreshing lemon and green grape. We also followed a great tip by watering down our beer with the Water Pop to make it more delicious.
At the Petitzel booth next to where we just were, we received a bag of fresh green products which matched the concept of Green Cinema: Éclair Green Tea, which has been a hot selling-item at convenience stores nationwide, Jelly, Water Jelly, Green Grape Ade, and the mini-size "Petit Book," a limited edition product from last year. Best of all, we got all these things for free!
We took Toreta, the low-calorie drink for rehydration for which actress Park Bo-young was the spokesmodel. The cool drink was a good choice for enjoying the live performances of the musicians.
Of course, there was no way we were going to miss the chance for chicken and beer, which are an ever-welcome combination, anytime, anywhere. After standing in a long queue in front of the Puradak Chicken booth, we finally got a half portion of soy sauce-flavor chicken and shrimp chips. To complete the combination, we went to the next booth to receive a glass of Monteith's, New Zealand's beer.
After using all these coupons, we headed for the Samsung Card booth to enjoy the game event. To win an eco bag, we had to find randomly highlighted numbers (from 1 to 50) and press them within 45 seconds. We completed the game within 37 seconds! We felt really great about getting an eco bag! It was another of those little touches, like the CGV paper tray earlier, that really made everything so convenient. We were concerned about how we could hold all the gifts from the booths with our hands, but the eco bag made it easy. If you go to a music festival or an outdoor event in the summer, you can always use an eco bag to conveniently carry the things you need.
Mini music festival reminiscent of a burning sun
We continued to edge forward to secure a good viewing place a short distance from the stage. The sun was over our head at this point but we didn’t mind the hot weather.
We spread our picnic blanket we had prepared on the grass and sat down, ready for the picnic to begin. It was great to see all the gifts of food arrayed on the blanket. To restore our energy from the hot weather, we started with the Water Pop and Petitzel Éclair. Drinking a sip of fresh Water Pop after having a bite of sweets was well-matched.
All of a sudden, Annyeongbada appeared on the stage and marked the beginning of the mini music festival with their new song "Tear Drop". They sang seven songs in total, saying that they don’t have many opportunities to sing in the city and that they also hoped their songs would be the BGM today at CGV Green Cinema. Obviously, their last song was "Star Shower"! Listening to the refreshing music while lying down on the grass was really relaxing!
Next was Kingston Rudieska, a local nine-member ska band! They needed no introduction! Simply enjoy! Their exciting performance captivated the ears and eyes of the entire audience at once. Matching the music of Jamaica, the colorful instruments and the fun and exciting dance moves of vocalist Lee Suk-Yul made us feel great. Lee Suk-Yul jumped down from the stage and ran across the grass during the performance, which gave the concert a great atmosphere! It was very thrilling!
With the dusk setting in, there was only one team left. Oksang Dalbit, who marked the end of the mini music festival, started their performance with very apt words. They sang a soft and relaxed song called "You Did Good Today" which was very familiar to us. The song perfectly completed the festival in harmony with the sunset casting an orange glow around the sky.
A midsummer night's dream, movie picnic on the grass
As the mini music festival finished and we took a rest while looking up at the dark sky, detailed information for CGV Green Cinema flashed up on the big screen. As we looked around, we could see many people lying down on their picnic blankets. We felt like we were sharing this moment with those people and building our fellowship with them.
We laid down on our blanket and watched the movie in a very comfortable position. The movie was Familyhood, featuring Kim Hye-soo and Ma Dong-seok. We were really looking forward to seeing the movie because it starred our two favorite actors. Indeed, the pair made a perfect duo. If you’re looking for a comedy movie to enjoy on a hot summer day, this movie would be a great choice.
Our pleasant day finished as the movie came to a close. It felt really special to watch a movie on so much green grass, an indispensable part of the well-named Green Cinema. Although there were as many as 1,100 people attending the event, the grass was respected and kept clean without any litter. Their respect for the environment to keep the festival green was the perfect grand finale.
CGV Green Cinema! It was a big summer event prepared by CGV to provide the audience with various kinds of joyful experiences and cultural values, which made it so much more than just catching a movie at a theater! The mini music festival and the movie night offered everyone attending the event a great time – the perfect mini-vacation in the city.
